53.6 million tonnes of electronic waste were produced globally in 2019. An unimaginable amount, which seems even more dramatic if you use a comparative value. 53.6 million tonnes correspond to the weight of 179 buildings the size of Cologne Cathedral. There is a clear progression: within five years, the quantity of electronic waste has grown by 21%, and by 2030 the Global E-waste Monitor is forecasting a further growth to 74 million tonnes. This places an enormous burden on the environment.

Sustainable light

Lights make up only a small part of the total volume. Nevertheless, the reduction of electrical waste in the sense of sustainable management is valid: every electronic part that is repaired rather than thrown away counts. And every defective part that can be recycled or is made from recycled materials helps to protect the environment.

Over 80% of SLV lights can now be repaired by professionally trained hands. This will enable SLV to satisfy the requirements in the European Union directives on ecodesign and energy efficiency, while also contributing to a reduction in electronic waste.

NUMINOS® - The downlight and spotlight system

What reparability and sustainable product design mean is particularly well demonstrated by the new SLV NUMINOS® series: the freely configurable lighting system offers thousands of possibilities for a wide variety of projects, making it the perfect system for lighting designers, architects and electricians.

When developing the innovative system, the engineers paid special attention to sustainable implementation. A configurator helps with the individual composition of NUMINOS® products. Drivers, LED light sources, diffusers, lenses, housings and optical elements are assembled for the customer's needs and application. After ordering, the desired configuration is assembled individually for the customer in the central warehouse in Übach-Palenberg near Aachen and delivered promptly.

The customer receives a complete product, consisting of individual components. For the entire lifetime of the lights, this means: individual components that become defective over the years can be easily replaced. Complete replacement of the product is not necessary. This is also the case if new drivers or other lenses or reflectors are desired.

This makes NUMINOS® not only an optimal spotlight and downlight system when it comes to project planning and realisation, but also a sustainable design thanks to its intelligent construction, making it a lighting system with an exceptionally long life expectancy.
