Lights on Sustainability

Sustainability Report 2025

All business efforts of SLV Lighting Group GmbH are firmly based on the common group values: responsibility, respect and reliability. Driven by the desire for a sustainable future, we not only take every opportunity to make our products more sustainable. Sustainable action runs through our entire value chain to make a positive impact that will benefit people around the world. Mitigating climate change and taking social responsibility are two focal points on our path to responsible growth. You can read about the measures we are already taking in our Sustainability Report 2025.

Our strategy

We are convinced that our strategy will have a positive long-term impact on society, the environment and our economic performance. As the SLV Lighting Group, we focus on five strategic areas:

Customer focus: The customer is always at the centre of everything we do.

Digital transformation: We are driving the digital transformation of the group through a state-of-the-art digital infrastructure.

Social values: We assume social responsibility by focusing on responsible procurement.

Striving for excellence: Ensuring the highest quality of our products and our work.

Cultural (r)evolution: Promoting an agile learning culture, an inclusive working environment and attractive development opportunities.

CSR Handbook

Responsible growth is of central importance to us. We firmly believe that economic success and social commitment should go hand in hand. In our CSR handbook, you will find the strategies and actions we are taking to make a positive contribution to a better society. We are proud to promote and implement sustainable practices in all our business areas. Let's take responsibility together and create a positive future.

Climate change

The effects of climate change are already being felt around the world. However, we can still minimise them if we take immediate action. We are aware of our responsibility and our role in this crisis. As a group, we have decided to take on this responsibility and become part of the solution.

The biggest driver of climate change is greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions can be classified as direct or indirect emissions. Direct emissions, also known as Scope 1 emissions, include all GHG emissions generated by the company's own activities. This includes heating with natural gas or the company's vehicle fleet.

As a group, we have made it our mission to minimise greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible. In doing so, we pursue a holistic approach along our value chain. Our key measures include the gradual recording and reduction of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, the development of products with a higher recycled content, the optimisation of logistics processes and the increased use of environmentally friendly packaging solutions. We rely on long-term partnerships and transparent data to systematically record and reduce emissions in the supply chain.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

Packaging has a significant impact on companies' use of resources. Plastic causes considerable environmental problems, from CO₂ emissions during production to global waste streams. That is why we started systematically reducing our use of plastic early on. Since 2019, we have been able to reduce our use by 99 per cent, in particular by eliminating plastic packaging and using paper-based alternatives.

We currently only use plastics in a few cases where functional requirements make this necessary. Here, too, we are actively looking for more environmentally friendly solutions. With ‘on-demand packaging,’ we adapt the volume of our packaging to the contents, reduce unnecessary material and increase the efficiency of logistics processes.

Since 2021, we have also been using UPS's option to deliver parcels to our customers in a climate-neutral manner in order to keep our footprint as small as possible. This means that over 80% of the parcels delivered are shipped without impacting the climate. Thanks to the offsets made, the deliveries have net zero emissions.

In 2025, we also launched a new project. Gradually, our product packaging will not only get a fresh new design. Our new packaging will consist of at least 70% recycled cardboard. This will also reduce the weight of the packaging. This will save us around 130 tonnes of paper per year – and mean we need over 2,500 fewer mature trees for our packaging. That is equivalent to a small forest area the size of a football field. In this way, we are making another important contribution to the responsible use of our resources, step by step.

Circular economy

To achieve sustainable growth, we must focus on the circular economy approach. This focuses on changing processes and systems to improve the efficiency and management of our resources. By applying the basic principles of a circular economy, we can contribute to a sustainable future.

Resource efficiency: Use of secondary raw materials instead of primary raw materials.

Energy efficiency: Conversion of our own portfolio to 100% energy-saving LED lighting for residential, work and outdoor areas.

Recyclability: Our products are designed so that they can be easily recycled at the end of their service life.

Repairability: Already today, around 97% of our lighting products can be repaired by a specialist.

Modularity: Currently, around 63% of our luminaires have a modular design, so that individual components can be flexibly exchanged or replaced as needed.

UTILISATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES

The use of renewable energies is the basis for ecologically responsible business. We always endeavour to use renewable energy wherever possible. We already obtain electricity from 100% renewable energy sources at all German and other major locations. A changeover has already been reviewed or implemented at all other locations.

Social responsibility

All our actions are in line with the ten principles of the UN Global Compact. These relate to corporate responsibility in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.

We have been a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) since 2017 and are committed to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address global challenges. In this decade of action, we have set our goals in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
