Strandbar 54° Nord – Lighting concept for restaurant, bar & architecture

In the heart of St. Peter-Ording, directly on the beach, the Strandbar 54° Nord opened in a new form in 2025. The new building is a modern interpretation of the legendary original bar, which stood in the North Sea waves for almost five decades. A space of approximately 400 m² has been created where nature, architecture, and light combine to create a unique experience.

Atmosphere that lasts

"Light sets the mood – especially in a place like this," explains interior designer Kerrin Jebens of De Wohnwarksteed. Her goal: a beach bar that appears open and clear during the day, but unfolds a warm, inviting ambiance in the evening.

Large filament lamps at the bar create atmospheric warmth, while GLENOS® LED profiles in recessed tracks add discreet accents. The combination creates a lighting concept that enhances the special character of the place – and makes guests feel welcome from the very first moment.

Technology meets the forces of nature.

A construction project directly on the beach presents significant challenges: salty air, a changeable climate, and time pressure. The project team deliberately chose SLV to meet this challenge.

The clear choice was SLV because we found everything they could need: from sea air-resistant products to dimming options and fast delivery.

The following products were used, among others:

  • 40 RASTERLYS outdoor luminaires – robust, dimmable, and designed for the coastal climate
  • 50 NUMINOS® luminaires in a 3-phase track system – individually configurable for each zone
  • 50 meters of S-TRACK DALI tracks – for a consistent, uniform system
  • 10 KARDAMOD ceiling luminaires in the hallways and restrooms

This flexibility proved particularly valuable during the critical construction phase: As a new product, the RASTERLYS would not have been available yet. However, SLV made it possible and delivered the product by air freight at short notice to ensure the schedule could be met.

Favorite light: RASTERLYS

"Clearly, the Rasterlys is my highlight," emphasizes Jebens. "It combines everything we need here: robustness, dimming function, emergency lighting option – and a striking design that also gives the beach bar a visual character."

This makes it the symbol of the project: technology, function, and aesthetics seamlessly intertwine.

Together for success

The close collaboration between the architect, operator, and SLV made the implementation possible. Intensive consultations led to the selection of a DALI-capable, flexible system that met both the design and technical requirements.

SLV offers not just products, but solutions – always with flexibility, budget, and availability in mind.
