What you should or should not do when it comes to garden lighting

When the first rays of sunshine come out at the latest, people start to think about the garden. It is not uncommon for the last lights to have to be installed "quickly" so that customers can start the warm season with satisfaction. To ensure that nothing goes wrong, we have summarised the most important do's and don'ts for you.

PHOTONI

The PHOTONI feels particularly at home in coastal regions thanks to its special surface treatment. They emit a subtle light that is at home in any outdoor area. The new luminaire family was honoured by the German Design Award 2024 as the winner in the "Excellent Product Design" category.

The outdoor lights from SLV undergo a series of tests to ensure the specified IP protection.

M-POL

The M-POL not only offers a high IK protection class. It also provides balanced light distribution to ensure uniform brightness on paths and avoid potential tripping hazards.

Do not bury the garden lighting cable

It is a common misconception that the cables connected to outdoor lamps can be buried in the ground without further ado. Such cables are often not designed for direct burial. Exposure to the elements can damage the cable material. The capillary effect can also allow moisture to enter the luminaire along the cable, causing electrical faults.

To ensure the longevity of the outdoor lights and maximise safety, you should not lay the connection cable directly in the ground. One method of effectively protecting the electrical cables from external influences is to lay them in a PVC pipe. This method provides additional protection against moisture and mechanical damage.

In addition, it is advisable to treat electrical connections in outdoor areas with particular care. The use of watertight casting sleeves filled with casting resin is a reliable method of securing connections against the ingress of water. This practice thus contributes to the prevention of electrical failures and the safety of the entire lighting system. It is important to consider the specific challenges of the outdoor environment and implement the best possible solutions for safe and effective lighting.
